It’s Cross Country Time!

The first Leisure Centre League event of 2008 will take place at Pontllanfraith Civic Centre, Blackwood on Sunday, 13th January.

Meet at the Leisure Centre, to share lifts ready to leave at 9:30am.

The men typically race approximately 10km through the mud, with the women having a slightly shorter course. If you’ve been to a LCL cross country before, you’ll know what fun and camaraderie can be had - if it’s your first time, don’t fret - it’s a closed event with a wide range of runners. Come along and give it a try!

Gloucester 10 Mile - 6th January

Written by Steve Harris

7 Chepstow Harriers tok part in the Gloucester 10 Mile road race on the 6th January. On a lovely winters day (if a little chilly) A couple of the Chepstow Athletes were facing the wrong way at the shout of “Go!” due to a chat about whether they really wanted to be doing this or not.

On a good fast course, if a little hilly and icy in places Matthew Lawson led the harriers home in 1:03:47 (21st) Steve Harris cam in 1:04:55 to set a new PB to claim 24th spot. First of the Ladies Lou Summers 1:14:58 in 131st overall.
Nicki Morgan (170th in 1:18:34) Vanessa Lawson (191st in 1:20:48), Colin Prosser (199th 1:21:38) and Syd Wheeler (217th in 1:23:25) Which I believe is a new club record for a MV70 at this distance.

The winner clocked a decent time of 54:11 (If only!!) and 306 pople completed the race.

New Years Day

Hereford 10K
A few Harriers travelled North to this event. Results are available LINK

Syd Wheeler

Well done Syd with a time of 50:52, I think winning the MV70 competition - even
though the events have him as MV65.
First Harrier home was Gareth Creed (41:49)

Orienteering - NGOC Score Event - Kidnalls, Lydney
Alternative sport was a 1 hour score event, attended by the Ashtons, the Stotts, Andy Creber and perhaps other harriers. A good time running through the trees and the mud.

Training - Hospital Hill
There were only a dozen or so who turned up at the leisure centre, but the select band pushed themselves hard - all seemed happy they had made the effort. For somethis was the second session of the day!

Olde Father Tyme Race 5 Miles Cardiff Dec.30th.

Wendy Roberts completed her 3rd ever race in 42 mins exactly. All 177 runners received festive goodybags of wine and shampoo ! Prize winners took home even more wine !
