Magor Marsh 10K practice
A cold day dawned and 59 runners, plus a few hardy marshalls, gathered at Undy FC for the practice running of July’s new club race - Bill Bewg’s Magor Marsh 10K. The sun shone brightly (though not particularly warmly!) on the pancake flat course - oh, and the slightly undulating last kilometre too…
For a number of the club, this was the culmination of several weeks’ 10K specific training and all were focussed on their personal time targets (after the group warm-up and huddle).
Some fine racing and performances followed, with the field led home by Martin Pengilly, just breaking the 36 minute barrier. Next in was Mark Harvey, in a new PB time of 37:02 followed by Richard Matthews (37:21). First lady was Kath Matthews (8th overall) in 38:39 followed by Sam Mulligan (41:03) and Lou Summers (41:41). Amongst the many great efforts, special mention goes to Suzie Shepherd and Jenni Bell who both broke the magical 50 minute barrier for the first time, commiserations (but a hearty well done) to Jane Bayliss who just missed the target by four seconds. Perhaps in July??
Many thanks to Bill and his helpers for putting on a fine race - I for one am looking forward to the re-run on 20th July (which will be the East Wales Championship 10K for 2008).

Great write up Andy - but where is Reuben on the results? He was 1sec in front of Matthew, I believe. I assume that as he is aged 2 he will get a particularly good time for his age…?

Best I can do for Reuben is to round his age up to 5.
This gives him an age related time of 26 minutes 12 seconds which is a score of 101.78%.
Not too shabby.
Sorry, but as he’s not yet a club member, he’s ineligible to score points in the championship.

Vanessa kindly pointed out that Jane Hall had been done out of a point - they had tied times so both should have 13 points for the “First Past the Post” contribution.
I’ve updated the results accordingly.
Edit - and again… this time with the correct DOB for Jane… whoops!
