Fell Series Final Report - by Gerry

This inauguaral year of the Chepstow Fell Series attarcted nearly 40 Harriers, and the competition was tight right to the last event. The final race - Sugar Loaf - was the decider for the series winners, both men and women. James needed a good result to seal victory, and despite injury he stood up to the challenge and came away with the championship. Matthew ran as hard as he could, but not enough to hold onto his lead. Well done both, only 12 points to separate them.
Following these were Andy, Andy & Andy - all within an 18 point spread.
The ladies title went to Gill, beating Sue by a mere 3.29 points. Sue had the consolation of beating Gerry, again by a close margin. Watch out - if he can stay fit…
There were a few late arrivals to the series. Paul Murrin had some very high scores in the last 2 races.
Both Niki and Esther joined half way through the year. I can see 2010 being a bit of a battle, particulalry with Lou and Vanessa involved. They will all struggle though if Marianne decides to commit to the series. They will follow in her wake!

We hope you all can make it to the Presentation in Monmouth on Sunday 22nd November. Meet at Monmouth leisure centre at 10:30 for a choice of training runs: flat along the river, or a recce of the Kymin Winter Fell Race route. For a fee you can shower at the leisure centre then back to the Ashton house (Prospect House, Prospect Road) for a bit of food and the prize-giving. All welcome, but try to let us know if you are coming.

Plans are being drawn for the 2010 series. See you all on the hills.
