Woman Wanted for London Trip
06/04/2010 by Dick.
Would anyone doing the London Marathon, or who fancies travelling up to support, like to share a room with one of our female members who’s landed with a double room. This would halve the cost for both parties. Please contact Dick on 01291 627569 or Lou on 01291 625073.
The Week Ahead 5 April 2010
05/04/2010 by Dick.
It’s the Mob Match against our friends from Thornbury on Thursday, so on Tuesday we’re offering a gentle 3 Woods alternative to the speed session, which is…
The Severn Avenue ~480 metre fairly flat course. We’re suggesting 10k race pace with a walk/slow jog recovery of maybe 3 minutes from the finish to the start along Sedbury Lane.
The 3 Woods will be the first off-road venture this season – well, without head torches anyway.
All hands to the pumps on Thursday for the long- awaited Mob Match. The scoring system favours the club with the most runners on the night, so come along everybody. Meet at our LC at 7 to jog down, or go straight to the S Bridge ready to start at 7.30. It’s the usual 5k course on the up-river side. Back to the LC afterwards for a buffet and prize-giving.
Offa’s Orror of course on Sunday. Hope everbody’s either helping or running, or in many cases both. Have a word with race organizer, Colin Prosser, if you’re not already down for the day.
A Plea For Help from Jane Rymer
02/04/2010 by Dick.
At the beginning of May, this years improvers course is due to start. For those of you that don’t know this is a course designed for those that already run 30 mins regularly, so, not complete beginners. It runs exactly like the club nights. A speed session on Tuesday and endurance on a Thursday. WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO RUN WITH THIS GROUP. It is a 10 week course, and we need people to help with first 8 weeks. We don’t know yet, who will join the course, so we need slower/medium pace runners as well as some faster runners in case we get another James joining. ALL WE ARE ASKING IS FOR YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR A SESSION ONCE OR TWICE OVER THE EIGHT WEEKS, THE MORE VOLUNTEERS THE LESS COMMITMENT FROM EACH ONE NEEDED, SIMPLE !!! J J
Our aim is for the improvers to go home each evening with feelings of achievement. Our job is not to overwhelm them, so when running with the improvers we would like club volunteers to run beside or slightly behind. Talk together and exchange running experience. Be encouraging and invite questions.
Below is a basic plan so you can see what/when sessions take place.

Mynydd Troed Recce Leave Sat 8.30
01/04/2010 by Dick.
(We’re leaving LC at 8.30 Saturday for the MT recce – no takers for Cotswolds)
With only two weeks left to the Mynydd Troed race, and Offa’s Orror next Sunday, for many people this weekend will be the last opportunity to run round the M T course (we’ve also offered a Cotswold Way Relay run in the Week Ahead blog, and that offer still stands).
I was thinking Saturday might be the best day for the MT recce, but if there’s more demand for Sunday…
We’ll be taking it at a very steady pace and it will give people a chance to test out their footwear - and time to buy some fell shoes if they feel they would do better with them. A lot of cross-country runners use fell shoes now, so you can justify the cost if you plan to do the LCL/Gwent League in future.
The race HQ, the Castle Inn at Pengeffordd (nr Crickhowell), is a nice pub with good ales, coffee and food, and we had a nice relaxing time after the first recce.
So please come along and sample the delights of the Black Mountains. Post a reply below and let us know what you want to do, or call Dick on 01291 627569.
