The Week Ahead 17 May 2010

On Tuesday Rich Matthews has devised a nice track relay session with a variety of distances.

The counter attraction is the first race of the East Wales series – the Brecon 4 mile road race, starting at Llanfrynach (just south of Brecon at the halfway point of the Brecon 10). Starts 7.15, entry on day. Some Harriers are going. Please reply by Comment below if you want to get in touch with other members to carshare.

And of course Thursday is the final Handicap in Chep Pk Wood. See Club Handicap page for details, and note Vanessa’s kind offer of a crèche!

Last handicap on Thursday at 7.15pm!!!

Provisional start list is below:

This is a busy week with the Brecon 4 on Tuesday (East Wales championship race).  Therefore I will give people who race on Tuesday an extra 20 seconds at the handicap.  The emphasis is on race, not jog round please, otherwise it’s not fair on those who run their legs off on Tuesday.  My decision is final on this matter.  Final start list will therefore be published on Wednesday.

Don’t forget it’s also a club championship race so even if you can’t do the handicap series this year it is still worth it to get championship points.  I can also babysit children etc if that encourages you to run.

As usual if your name is not on the list don’t panic, just turn up and a handicap will be given to you.

PS I am trying to locate the owner of the black fleecy gilet left at the last handicap.  It is a man’s top, but so far my investigations have proved fruitless. I will bring in on Thursday.

Llandogo Fun Run

I love this event – it gets better every year.  A Great family day.

In 2009 Rob and Emma Gordon redesigned the course to keep it within the school grounds – it is similar to a Gwent League cross county course only shorter.  It is great fun to run with short but steep hills and lots of twists and turns.  One lap is just under 1k.  Infants run 1 lap, Juniors 2, Seniors 3 and Adults 4 – in separate races so there is plenty of opportunity to dodge around the course cheering support and advice.

I like the ambition of these races – this year organised by Matt and Lucy Unsworth - they are a testing distance for the children – a chance for them to show what they can do – some children as young as 3 ran the whole kilometre – well done to you all.

In the infants race Joe Lidgett led strongly all the way to be just caught at the finish, coming 2nd Boy in 3:56. Gabe Unsworth was 1st Boy in 3:55.  Just behind the first two boys, Ceri Summers was 1st Girl in 3:57.  Pete’s daughter Rebecca Ward was 2nd Girl ( 4:30).

In the junior race Polly followed her sister in being 1st Girl and 3rd overall in 8:10.  Arunn Jones 1st Boy finished in 7:12,  Jamie Brown 2nd in 7:59, Joe Summers 3rd  in 8:29. Gabby Doody was 2nd Girl in 8:44 and a good achievement from Hannah Lidgett 3rd Girl (8:56) being one of the youngest in the race.

The top 3 in the adult 4k were – Matt Peake, Angela Jones and ‘Willie Eckaslike’ our very own Andy Creber in full costume.

The race felt quite tough by the last lap - thanks to Syd and Mark for coming to support.

After the race there was a bouncy castle, tug of war, balloon stomping, tea and cakes a barbeque and lots of games and prizes.

Thanks to Lucy, Matt, Rob Gordon and Llandogo PTA for doing a great job.

The Week Ahead 10 May 2010

The first Rose (Inn) of the Summer… is that a song?  A sharp & flat nocturne(l) event bar none, with a minim of fuss. Not for crotchety people, and not one to quaver at the thought of. Less than a tenor to enter, and a free pint of Bass. Altotude training not needed, but treble your chances of winning by keeping your wait down on the scales…

Thursday’s run is the Sea Wall of varying distances, but if you helped out with the Rose Inn and missed your speed workout, then Jane will be putting on a pyramid session on the track.

And of course being the second Thursday in the month … it’s CURRY NIGHT!!!

Handicap number 2 - results

Here are the results from last night’s handicap.  The race was won by Sue Ost, well done Sue!!!  Fastest man on the night was Tom Gibbs who ran 29.39, fastest lady was Astrid Gibbs (must be something about the name, I guess…) who ran 35.34.

There are three sets of results: one for the evening itself, then there is the list of fastest times in both events so far, and finally the results in points order.  Don’t forget it is the best two runs out of the three that count so you have one more chance in 2 weeks’ time!

Thanks to all the helpers, runners, supporters, etc!!!
