Bit late this week dear Reader – hope you’ll forgive me.
By now you’ll have either run, or missed, the LCL at the new venue of Penallta Park. I heard some very complimentary comments at the end, and I certainly thought it was a nice run. Mainly cinders and gravel with a wicked little hill on each of the laps, and well away from roads and traffic. Thanks Islwyn for a good course and effective, friendly marshalling.
Away again on Thursday with the annual ritual of the always popular Tintern Trot. Geoff Cram organizes following in the footsteps of Gareth Jones and founder Ian Wade.
Want to try a shortish, friendly hill race? The Guto Nyth Bran starts at 6pm Saturday in the pleasant town of Bedwas on the way to Caerphilly. Enter on the night, only a fiver, and a Tshirt & goodie bag!
Tintern Trot 1st July - CHANGES

The Tintern Trot 2010
Thursday July 1st: Start 7.30pm

Once again Chepstow Harriers will be organising the ever-popular Tintern Trot. This is a scenic 6mile (approx) multi-terrain race. The route description can be found below.
There are prizes for the first 3 Ladies, the first 3 Men and age category prizes from V35 to V60 for men and V35 to V55 for ladies. Every runner gets a free pint or special soft drink of their choice.
Entries are on the night only at race headquarters in Tintern village hall. Cars can be parked in the abbey visitors’ car park adjacent to the river, or the abbey overflow car park immediately opposite the abbey. Further parking is available 300m up the road next to the Royal George, who once again are providing the drinks.
The entry fees are £6 and £8 respectively.

ROUTE
The race will be very similar to recent years but with a change to the start and finish point. The race will start at the Tintern end of the old railway bridge, next to the Abbey Mill (NP16 6SE). The race crosses the bridge and then follows the river for about a mile, along the course of the old railway line. It then climbs up through the woods (about 600ft!) to reach Offa’s Dyke path, going north along the path for a mile or so. At the 3 way post the route goes down past HAPPA, and then turns left back along the lane to rejoin the outward route and back to finish at the same point as the start.

Cotswold Way Relay - Today!

Would be great to see as many as possible runners/supporters at the presentation and celebrations at Bath Rugby Club (BA2 4BQ) You can park at the RC and walk to the finish of Leg 10.
Getting to the Rugby Club is easy. Coming down the A46 from Cold Ashton, take the A4 (London Rd) towards Bath. At the major traffic lights after about a mile, turn left along Bathwick Street, right into Sydney Place, 2nd right into Great Pulteney St, 2nd left into William St, right at the bottom and park by the pitch.
Walk past the Rugby Clubhouse, turn right along by the river, up the steps and across Pulteney Bridge. Turn left along the opposite bank of the river, curve round and cross the road to the back of Bath Abbey. Cross the square in front of the Abbey, and Leg 10 finishes by the colonnade at the far end of the square.
When all the runners have come in we’ll walk back to the Rugby Club for a drink and the prize presentations. The organisers have promised that the World Cup football will be showing on the big screen.

Please could anyone who doesn’t yet have their race number for the CWR please collect it from the leisure centre at 6.50 pm tonight ( Thursday ) or arrange for someone else doing the same leg to collect it.
Those running should all have recieved an email to this effect including full team listings.

Or you might fancy having a go at the Beacon Batch fell race over in Somerset up in the Mendips. It’s the next run in the Chepstow Harroers Fell Race series. Points at stake, and you know what points mean? No? Oh dear…
Thursday brings us the first Hash Run of the season. Neil has organized this one and will take us round brake and briar to a mystery destination where drink and food await those who follow the flour arrows aright.
Be ready to leave the Leis Ctre at 7 or make your own way to Mathern village hall (in the centre of the village on the right coming from the A48).

LCL Fairwater Results

Another enjoyable race in the LCL Summer series on Tuesday was well organized as always by Fairwater Runners who also gave Chepstow a close run in the men’s competition.
In the end Chepstow just shaded it by a few points with Griffithstown third, while our women came out ahead of Caerleon and Parc Bryn Bach.
Well done to all who ran and thanks to Syd, Jane R, Colin P and Geoff C for all their help.
And thanks Fairwater for a good race and great marshalling.

This is a Multi Terrain Event & Family Fun Run around the lake with the
start and finish at Mallards Pike
5 Mile Event: £6.00/£8.00 (attached/unattached)
Minimum age of 15 (on race day) for 5 mile event
Fun run around the lake - £2.00 for kids - £6.00/£8.00 adults
Young runners will need to be accompanied by an adult please.
Adults accompanying their children pay no entry fee
7.00pm - Fun run - 1 lap
(U9 race will start 10m forward of the fun run)
7.15pm - U11 race - 1 lap

… and Anglo-Saxon royal regalia!
On 1 July before the start of the Tintern Trot we’re holding a photo-shoot to publicise Offa’s Orror. Bill Bewg has gallantly volunteered to dress up as the 8th century king of Mercia, and is looking for a crown and a suitable costume.
We’re looking for some other brave souls to be Bill’s attendants.
So if you’ve got the odd crown, sword, cloak up in the loft, can you please lend them to Race Director, Colin Prosser. who promises to look after them and return them unharmed. Indeed I believe he’s just purchased a new tin of gold polish and a patent sword sharpener for the occasion…
And Col will also be delighted to hear from anyone who fancies dressing up as a soldier, page or peasant, and/or who has some suitable clothing in their dressing-up chest. I understand that any actors will be rewarded with a large tankard of Anglo-Saxon ale!!!
