The Week Ahead 27 Sept 2010

Cnut couldn’t keep the tide back, but Chepstow Harriers are doing their best to keep time at bay!

A week after the Autumn Equinox, so we do have 12 hours of daylight on Tuesday - honest. Go straight on to the field and start warming up for a prompt start and enough time for four sets of small, medium and large laps.

Likewise some off-road stuff on Thursday, but the 6.45 gang (can you make it this week Karen?) last Thursday were well on their way before the 7 o’c pack had got to the top of the steps.

Over to Tutshill (just right for Jackie & Sharon) for the Gloucestershire Way, and see how long you can follow it till you have to resort to the tarmac.

LCL Cross Country Calendar

Sunday 7 Nov - Chepstow, Piercefield Park followed by Summer League prizegiving and cakes.

Sunday 28 Nov – Islwyn, Pontllanfraith nr Blackwood.

Sunday 9 Jan – Fairwater, Pontypool Park.

Sunday 20 Feb – Parc Bryn Bach, nr Tredegar.

Sunday 6 Mar – Lliswerry & Caerleon jointly, Rogerstone School.

All races start 11am. Free entry. Don’t forget your race number, same one as previous LCL races. Ask Syd if you’ve never had one.

Gwent League cross-country dates are on Club only Events page.

The Week Ahead 20 Sept 2010

We’re still pushing our luck with the nights closing in, so we’d better get organized Tuesday and head straight over to Piercefield Park for the 1 minute up/1 minute down session.

It’s two separate sets of six lots of up and down with a nice break between sets.

On Thursday let’s meet on the steps and get running on the stroke of 7 and beat Mr Dark! Or you can really cheat that dusky gent by setting off earlier. Arrange a 6.45 meet with your chums.

Through Barnets Woods and Cockshoot Wood, then across the fields to the left of Fryth Wood to Rogerstone Grange and back via the roads via St Arvans.

Time to dig out that reflective top. I’ve ordered some more for sale soon.

Crop Tops

Ladies,

I’ve managed to find a replacement supplier for crop vests. The colouring and font design is very similiar to the original one, however, two styles are available - these being a standard “full” back and a T-back. Also you’ll be pleased to hear they’re of equal quality (Lycra) to the original, but considerably cheaper at £13:80.

I presently have a sample available if you want to try before you buy. The ordering will be slightly different from conventional methods, in as much as you’ll be required to complete an order form (which will be made available asap via a link off the club kit page) and post off along with your cheque.

Have a look for yourself at the link below, but please dont order just yet as the account set up is not yet finalised.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any further info.

The Week Ahead 13 Sept 2010

A quiet week in view following the effort on Sunday in Wiltshire. If you’re in recovery mode, then take Tuesday’s pyramid session at a steadier pace than usual. Sue has scheduled it as 400/800/1200/1600/1200/800/400 with one lap jog recovery between each. But she suggests that you miss out the 1600 if the full 6,400 metres is more than you want to do at present.

Then on Thursday take advantage of the last few weeks of evening light with the season’s last Sea Wall run.

And finally, there’s a rumour going round that Vanessa is arranging another road bike time trial on Saturday morning. Watch this space for details!

Chippenham half marathon

A meeting/departure time of 7.45am at the Leisure Centre was announced Tuesday for those who want to share transport to Chippenham.  It’s about 45mins away and the race starts at 9.30am.

I’ll be going straight to Chippenham with a car full of noisy boys, so if you’d like a lift/share transport can you post a reply here or let someone else know, to make sure that there is someone at the LC to go with.

Do read the instructions that were sent in the post a couple of weeks ago for directions etc, so you know where you are going in any case.

We are planning a pub visit after the race.  Not sure where yet.

Any questions let me know.

See you there!  If I don’t see you, have a good run!

Vanessa

The Week Ahead 6 September

This month’s Coach Sue Ashton has arranged a nice fartlek session over Piercefield Park on Tuesday. In teams of five you take turns leading for five minutes each, running wherever the fancy takes you. The leader calls out “Fast” “Trot” “Jog” as they choose, but the “fast” should be within 30 secs to 3 mins. Should be a nice change.

Or you might fancy a track session of eight lots of 800 metres with an easy 400 metre jog recovery. Eight might seem a long session for some, so please do six if you prefer.

On Thursday the run takes us along the Wye Valley Walk, up to Porthcasseg Farm and back via St Arvans.

Be quick to get back before darkness falls, and to get ready for the fun of Curry Night! To save delays waiting for your meal, the Bellhanger manager has suggested that we ring through our food order at 7, and it will be ready soon after we arrive. The menu will be on the table for your selection at 6.50.

And finally good luck to all at the Chippenham Half on Sunday!

White Horse Wins

Great news! Our Mixed team came first in their category today.

Our other team were in the Open section which was won by a Chippenham team, but we had one stage winner and some seconds.

It was a very enjoyable event and we’re hoping to enter again next year if this inaugural event is put on again.
