The Week Ahead 31 October 2011

On Tuesday Andy Meek-Welsh starts his stint as Coach of the Month with a return to Hospital Hill. Sunday’s cross-country at Pontypool Park will suit runners who have a good hill session under their belt.

Thursday’s run is to Beachley and back including the diversion round the Wyebank estate to make it a good long workout.

Yes it’s the second LCL XC on Sunday at Ponty Park. Meet at the LC at 9.45 for 11.00 start. See Syd if you haven’t got a number.

Calling All Brains

Our Leisure Centre has invited the Harriers to enter a team in a quiz they are organising for all the clubs and societies that use the Centre.

So if you think you know a few things – one of the rounds has a Christmas theme – and you’re free on the evening of Saturday 12 November, give Dick your name now. Adding  a comment below is a good way of doing that.

While we’re on the subject, don’t forget the Club quiz on Friday 2 December, which will incorporate the Fell Race series prize-giving during the half-time break. Further details will follow a little nearer the date.

The Week Ahead 24 October 2011

The new season’s first Thornwell Loop on Tuesday. Four loops for A-C groups and three for D-F groups are recommended. Go at 5k pace and take 90 secs recovery.

Choose on Thursday the Itton 8 - or if you prefer quieter roads -  Shirenewton and back. Either way don’t forget your reflective top. A headtorch is also recommended for added safety.

Stroud Half Marathon sunday 23rd

Sunday is the October club champs race, the Stroud Half Marathon.

Entries have closed now but if you are not running you are welcome to come and cheer! Postcode GL5 4HE

Race start is 10am and it is a bit of a way from the car park to the start so I would suggest leaving Chepstow at 8am to get there in plenty of time.  It’s quite a big race so the roads get very busy and parking has been tricky in the past…If people want to meet at the LC then please post below, but I know several are making their own way there.

After the race we can go for a drink at The Woolpack in Slad, 3miles from Stroud.  The pub is a traditional Cotswold pub with good food and beer and it is famous for its connection with Laurie Lee of ‘Cider with Rosie’.  Thanks Dick for the suggestion.

They advise booking for Sunday lunch so if you think you may want to then their contact details are: GL6 7QA, 01452 813429.  Sunday food served until 3pm.

Jane, Lou and Stuart for Wales!

Congratulations to Jane Horler, Lou Summers and Stuart Penny for being selected to run for Wales in the Home Country’s Masters Cross Country in Glasgow on 20 November.

Stuart has run for Wales in previous years, as has Sue Ashton and Syd Wheeler.

This a great honour for them and the Club and we wish them well.

The Week Ahead 17 October 2011

Autumn draws on Mrs (no it wasn’t funny first time either) and that means we’re back on the old Severn Bridge on Tuesday for the ever popular 5k Time Trial. Starts at 7.30 on the upstream side as usual, and the warm-up jog down from the Leisure Ctre leaves at 7.

The eagerly-awaited Night Hash finally rolls round on Thursday. A change of timing since WotsOn, we’re leaving the Leis Ctre at 7 for the Rising Sun, Moseley Green for a 7.30 start.

Don’t forget your torch – head or hand.

And of course on Sunday it’s the next round in the Club Championship - The Stroud Half. If you haven’t entered yet, I’m told there’s a spare entry on the Bulletin Board.

Our Club Champs team will be posting a meeting time for car sharing later in the week.

Chepstow Cycle Group News

There is no organised ride this coming Sunday. I have suggested a set meeting time of 8.30 for the regulars starting this week. I’m not around this Sunday so can’t give any guarantee about the pace or distance.

Will plan some more rides over the weekend for the end of Oct/beginning of Nov and will let you have details of these as soon as I have them

October - December is traditionally the close season for cycling and rides tend to be steadier and lower in distance especially this side of December with the emphasis on social/group riding. I will reflect this in the rides that I set up but will include some longer ones from time to time. Distance then builds gradually from December onwards in preparation of the start of a new season towards the begining of March.

Happy for anyone to contact me if they need some more details.
