Week Ahead 30th August 2011
30/08/2011 by Lou.
Tonight’s speed session is a 3k time trail at Beachley Track. Cars will leave the leisure centre after announcements by Niki. Us wanting to jog over will leave promptly to arrive after the track warm up for the 3k.
Thursday’s run is a shortened version of the St. Arvans MT 10 - through the Piecefield Park, Porthcasseg Farm, Fedw Woods, Chep Park Woods, down the hill into St. Arvans and back.
Gill and Dick are still looking for more runners for the White Horse Relay this Sunday - legs are between 5 - 10 miles - drive about 45 mins.
If you are available please let either Gill or Dick know - ideally you would recce your leg but otherwise there is a virtual route available http://www.whitehorserelay.org/
Dick can be contacted on 627569, 07828102680 or dickfinch@talktalk.net or reply on the bulletin board or leave a message here.
Iron Mountain 7 mile trail run
28/08/2011 by Lou.
Bank Holiday Monday Run?
Sorry if this is up somewhere else - just back from the Gower and this looks good for tomorrow - an email from Chris Vorres
“Hi
A few of us are going to do the Iron Mountain Trail on Monday as there is no Machen run.
The name refers to the industry in the area – Blaenafon – not the challenge!
We will meet at Midday, at the Keepers Pond, Blaenafon, and then afterwards pop into the Lamb and Fox for a drink.
It’s a stunning trail, very runnable. Some climb, but at a diagonal so not too steep.
Must stress, this is not an official race – I have not applied for insurance etc….
Please forward this to anyone you think may enjoy the run – I will go out earlier in the day and put out some flour blobs to mark it, but it isn’t really necessary as it’s a well-marked trail. The map attached contains lots of info about it.

Llanthony Show and Fell Race - Saturday 6th August
05/08/2011 by Lou.
Llanthony Show Saturday 6th August
Dick’s fell race starts from the showground 12.15 (ish)
3.5 miles 1100ft ascent.
Quite a few Chepstow runners should be there - come and run.
There is a junior fell race which is the same route but they start about a mile up the hill – it’s still a tough race and really for children who are used to running up mountains or just a bit tough! There are lots of other races for children at the showground too.
Race entry is in the show entry/parking which was £5 last year
http://www.llanthonyshow.co.uk/Directions%20and%20Contacts.html
Show formally opens at 1pm – great show lots of children’s races – plus sack races for adults and children, 4 in a bag race for all, beer race for ‘adults’, a mile race, stalls and a rodeo.
Beautiful backdrop.

The Caerleon race is now a new route - parking is in the University grounds where we need to be for 7.15 pm ready to walk to the start at St. Cadoc’s Hospital

A summary of the rules for this race - please read!
Caerleon Running Club Leisure League Race Route – 19th July 2011
4 Main Rules:
University of Wales (Newport), Caerleon Campus – Only park vehicles in the designated bays on the campus.
St Cadoc’s Hospital – Race start. No one must deviate from the roads we are using for the run, and certainly no one should relieve themselves in the bushes or take any other liberties.
The Highway –any runner who strays from the pavement on Lodge Road or Pillmawr Road WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. Both areas will be marshalled. Follow any instructions from these marshals.
The Cyclepath & Pillmawr Road – Runners will be passing each other in opposite directions so all competitors to stay on the left side of the path when approaching runners coming in the opposite direction.
Runners are welcome to use the changing and shower facilities in the Sports Centre, and the Students Union Bar has been opened especially for the evening, so we would be glad if members of other clubs would care to join us for a post-run beverage!
