The Week Ahead 12 July 2010
13/07/2010 by Dick.
The third Rose Inn on Tuesday. Come and run or offer your help to Andy M-W.
On Thursday our long run is the Sea Wall, a nice long ramble and not hilly.
Then our second Club Training Weekend at Merthyr Mawr starts on Friday evening. People who went last year all enjoyed it, and it seems most are going again this time. You just pitch up with your tent when you like, bring along whatever food and drink you’ll need for your stay, and enjoy!
The camp site is set in the dunes not far from the sea, with a clean toilet/shower block, and it’s all paid for by the Club. Andy C has arranged a full programme of sporting and social activities suitable for all the family. You can read all about it and find directions on the Bulletin Board

Cotswold Way Relay - Today!
25/06/2010 by Lou.
All our runners would appreciate your support somewhere along the Cotswold Way Relay today
http://www.cotswoldwayrelay.co.uk/CWRstagesroutes.htm
Would be great to see as many as possible runners/supporters at the presentation and celebrations at Bath Rugby Club (BA2 4BQ) You can park at the RC and walk to the finish of Leg 10.
Getting to the Rugby Club is easy. Coming down the A46 from Cold Ashton, take the A4 (London Rd) towards Bath. At the major traffic lights after about a mile, turn left along Bathwick Street, right into Sydney Place, 2nd right into Great Pulteney St, 2nd left into William St, right at the bottom and park by the pitch.
Walk past the Rugby Clubhouse, turn right along by the river, up the steps and across Pulteney Bridge. Turn left along the opposite bank of the river, curve round and cross the road to the back of Bath Abbey. Cross the square in front of the Abbey, and Leg 10 finishes by the colonnade at the far end of the square.
When all the runners have come in we’ll walk back to the Rugby Club for a drink and the prize presentations. The organisers have promised that the World Cup football will be showing on the big screen.

Llandogo Fun Run
11/05/2010 by Lou.
I love this event – it gets better every year. A Great family day.
In 2009 Rob and Emma Gordon redesigned the course to keep it within the school grounds – it is similar to a Gwent League cross county course only shorter. It is great fun to run with short but steep hills and lots of twists and turns. One lap is just under 1k. Infants run 1 lap, Juniors 2, Seniors 3 and Adults 4 – in separate races so there is plenty of opportunity to dodge around the course cheering support and advice.
I like the ambition of these races – this year organised by Matt and Lucy Unsworth - they are a testing distance for the children – a chance for them to show what they can do – some children as young as 3 ran the whole kilometre – well done to you all.
In the infants race Joe Lidgett led strongly all the way to be just caught at the finish, coming 2nd Boy in 3:56. Gabe Unsworth was 1st Boy in 3:55. Just behind the first two boys, Ceri Summers was 1st Girl in 3:57. Pete’s daughter Rebecca Ward was 2nd Girl ( 4:30).
In the junior race Polly followed her sister in being 1st Girl and 3rd overall in 8:10. Arunn Jones 1st Boy finished in 7:12, Jamie Brown 2nd in 7:59, Joe Summers 3rd in 8:29. Gabby Doody was 2nd Girl in 8:44 and a good achievement from Hannah Lidgett 3rd Girl (8:56) being one of the youngest in the race.
The top 3 in the adult 4k were – Matt Peake, Angela Jones and ‘Willie Eckaslike’ our very own Andy Creber in full costume.
The race felt quite tough by the last lap - thanks to Syd and Mark for coming to support.
After the race there was a bouncy castle, tug of war, balloon stomping, tea and cakes a barbeque and lots of games and prizes.
Thanks to Lucy, Matt, Rob Gordon and Llandogo PTA for doing a great job.

Forest of Dean Half on Sunday.
25/03/2010 by Lou.
Good luck to everyone running the FOD half on Sunday.
Don’t forget the clocks go forward! Start 10 am.
We are hoping to get a group photo of all Harriers running. Syd has offered to take the photo. Meet near the start – with 61 of us we should be easy to spot? At 9.45 – this should give us enough time for a quick photo before getting to the start.
After the race we need volunteers to hand out Offa’s Orror entries. So please find me or Col to get some forms – we should be near the finish handing out forms.
Then to celebrate/ commiserate en masse at the Rising Sun, Moseley Green – see you there.

The Week Ahead 8 March 2010
08/03/2010 by Dick.
Only 3 weeks to the FoD Half and what training you decide to do is important in optimising your race performance.
The Severn Avenue session on Tuesday will give you just under 500 metres of fairly flat (but a testing little slope at the end) speed per loop with a slow jog recovery between each of the 8 or 10 efforts. Last time some of us found that we were taking it too fast at first, but then controlled our pace better: and control of pace is what you need in racing.
The alternative Hospital Hill aims to give you more strength – in your legs and upper body as you drive up the hills within the 40 secs effort. It should improve your running efficiency in general, and specifically your ability to glide effortlessly (!) up the slopes in the FoD course, and then push off the top with strong legs.
A good chance on Thursday to put in a ten-mile pace run with the over the Severn Bridge and back course.
Plenty of time after to change and get yourself down to the Bellhanger for CURRY NIGHT!!!
A call to arms for Sunday. The final LCL cross-country at Rogerstone, Newport is a vital race for Chepstow. Our men’s team are only a couple of points behind the leaders, so a good turnout could just get us success. Our women need a good performance to clinch first place. Come along and be part of a great Club experience. There will be cakes!!! And a pub visit!!!
MEET AT LEIS CTRE 9.45 TO SHARE CARS
